The MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA is a trade Association that represents the interests of contractors and suppliers of the plumbing, heating, pipefitting and mechanical trade industries. Member companies range from local proprietorships to national companies and include both open and union shops. The MCA of Alberta is promoter, protector, watchdog and the recognized spokesperson for the Plumbing and Pipefitting Mechanical Trade Industry.

Who is a contractor Member?

Contractor members shall consist of those mechanical contractors represented by any person, firm, partnership, association, corporation or organization who:

  1. are registered members in good standing and are completing work within the Province of Alberta in the Plumbing or Mechanical Contracting Business;
  2. or in the opinion of the Board, contribute in a substantial financial manner to the Association.

ADVOCACY – GOVERNMENT & INDUSTRY RELATIONS:

MCA Alberta provides a strong and unified voice, representing the interests of Contractors and Affiliate Members to municipal, provincial and federal governments.

NATIONAL & PROVINCIAL CODES REPRESENTATION:

Through MCA Alberta membership in MCA Canada, your MCA provides direct representation to the C.S.A. and National Research Council on the Plumbing Codes, B 149 Gas Codes, and the Hydronic Heating Codes Committees. Provincially MCA has representation on the Safety Codes Council, ACSA, ACA, CCA, the local and Provincial Apprenticeship Committees and many more.

Industry Awareness:

Staying informed about your industry is important. MCA Alberta delivers regular information through memos, e-newsletters, and the annual Mechanical Plumbers & Piping Journal. MCA Alberta also performs regular surveys on direct labour and overhead costs to provide guidelines to assist with project price costing.

MANAGEMENT EDUCATION:

MCA Alberta creates opportunities for members to learn about new management techniques, products and competitive practices either directly through MCA or through sponsored seminars with the Canadian Mechanical Contractors Education Foundation (CMCEF).

INDUSTRY RELATED PRODUCTS – TOOLS OF THE TRADE:

Job Site Journals, Safety Manuals, Labour Calculators are available through the MCA Alberta and MCA Canada.

MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS (NETWORKING):

Regular membership meetings provide opportunity to meet with your peers and suppliers to discuss industry issues, exchange ideas, provide input to the MCA Alberta Board of Directors and learn from industry specialists.

SOCIAL & SPORTING ACTIVITIES:

MCA Alberta coordinates and delivers events designed for membership involvement including a provincial conference, curling bonspiel, golf tournaments, old timers night and various other social events.

GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS:

MCA Alberta membership includes access to an excellent group health insurance benefit plan at very competitive rates. Many contractors and industry affiliated individuals utilize this program.

MEMBERSHIP ADVANTAGE DISCOUNT PROGRAMS:

MCA Alberta is continually seeking to find discount programs that deliver real saving. Our current Petro Canada program allows for a fleet discount of 2.7 cents per litre. This benefit alone, may pay for your membership.

COLLECTION ASSISTANCE:

As a no-fee service to members, MCA Alberta will send a series of three letters to your past due accounts. This service often achieves the desired results.

APPRENTICESHIP TUITION FEE SUBSIDY:

To encourage and assist contractor members with apprentice training, MCA Alberta offers a significant tuition fee subsidy.

MEMBER PROMOTION:

The association participates in career fairs and trade shows to promote our contractor members and involvement in the trade. Members are also encouraged to use the MCA logo in your advertising.
